Christmas at Church of the Nativity Bethlehem

Merry Christmas Video, The Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem is believed to be the birthplace of Jesus Christ. This week, Christian pilgrims worldwide traveled to the church to worship Jesus Christ this Christmas.

The church is considered a sacred place of worship for Christians as well as those who practice Islam. Both Justin Martyr and Origen of Alexandria stated that the location of now standing church was the birthplace of Jesus.

The Church of the Nativity is also the oldest church in history, with the first basilica having completed construction in 333 A.D. The original basilica was destroyed in 529 and later rebuilt in 565 A.D.

The Church is composed of three structures, the Basilica of the Nativity (which is operated by the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem, the Church of St. Catherine (operated by the Roman Catholic Church) and the Grotto of the Nativity which is an underground cave that enshrines the spot where it is believed Jesus Christ was born.

The Armenian Apostolic influence is seen heavily in the Grotto of the Nativity. Many chapels are also abundant in the church’s structure. The manger believed to be the resting place of baby Jesus lays within the Grotto of the Nativity.

On December 24, 2009, thousands of Christian pilgrims attended a Christmas Eve mass led by Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem Fouad Twal.
